How privacy film works
It comes down to one thing: which side is brighter.
Reflective privacy film has a mirrored surface that faces outward. Light always reflects toward the brighter side, so during the day — when it is brighter outside than in — the outside sees its own reflection while you look straight through to the street. Nobody is looking at a coating; they are looking at a mirror.
That is also its one honest limitation. After dark, when your lights are on and the room is brighter than the street, the ratio flips and the mirror faces you instead. A reflective film is a daytime privacy solution. In daylight the outside is brighter, so it mirrors outward and you have full one-way privacy. The moment it is darker outside than inside — evening, lights on — the brighter side becomes your living room, and the reflection turns inward. Someone standing on the street can then see in much as they would through untreated glass.

- Blinds or curtains behind the film — keep the daytime one-way effect and the view, and close up in the evening.
- A blackout or heavier film — for specific rooms where light control matters as much as privacy.
